The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra’s immersive summer chamber music camp offers high school string, brass, and woodwind players an unforgettable experience! Enjoy rehearsals, daily coaching, masterclasses, technique classes, and audition prep with an outstanding faculty.

Meet the Faculty

Cellist Jenna Bachmann started on the instrument when she was nine years old through her school’s orchestra program in Manassas, Virginia. After quickly falling in love with the instrument, she decided to further pursue her musical education, receiving a Bachelor of Music from Florida State University, studying under cellist Greg Sauer, and a Master of Music from University of Maryland, studying under Dr. Eric Kutz. Throughout her years of cello playing, Jenna has also had the honor of receiving masterclasses with renowned cellists such as Oberlin College and Conservatory’s Dmitry Kouzov, The Juilliard School’s Phoebe Carrai, and Eastman School of Music’s David Ying, among others. As a performer, Jenna has played with the Panama City Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of Northern Virginia, and the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra. She also has a love for chamber music, and enjoys organizing chamber recitals with friends at local retirement homes, violin shops, or theatres. Above all, Jenna has a passion in teaching music, with experience teaching K-5 orchestra programs, cello lessons at local music schools and high schools, cello music minors at University of Maryland, and aural skills classes at University of Maryland. She has also enjoyed working in Arts Administration, spending her last three Summers in Sitka, Alaska working for the Sitka Music Festival. In her free time, Jenna enjoys cooking, tending to her plants, and spending time outdoors.

Joseph Reid is a versatile musician originally from Lenoir, North Carolina, now based in the greater DC area. He performs trumpet in a wide range of settings including symphony orchestra, brass quintet, mixed chamber ensembles, as well as jazz and rock ‘n roll groups. Joseph holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from the University of Georgia and a Master’s degree in Music Performance from the University of Maryland, where he was a fellow with the Terrapin Brass Quintet. His primary teachers include Chris Gekker, Philip Smith, Brandon Craswell, and James Stokes. Inspired by his parents, both lifelong public school music educators, Joseph is an active performer, arranger and educator working with brass students of all ages.

A native of Wilmington, North Carolina, violist Madelene Stohl has appeared at festivals such as Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music, Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival, and Online Solo Strings Intensive. In addition to performing, Maddie is a dedicated violin and viola teacher and received her Suzuki Pedagogy under Joanne Bath at East Carolina University. She received a Bachelors of Music degree and Certificate of Advanced Performance Studies under the tutelage of Ara Gregorian and Hye-Jin Kim at East Carolina University and a Masters of Music at the University of Maryland studying with Katherine Murdock and David Rose. Maddie currently performs with the New Carolina Sinfonia and performs and teaches in the greater DC area. Outside of music, Maddie enjoys cooking, finding new restaurants, snowboarding, and exploring the beach.

WSO’s Fortissimo! Chamber Camp gives you a total immersion in music for 8-straight days.
Here’s what a standard day can look like:
9:00 AM-12:00 PM: Students can elect to attend the Vivace Music Festival Masterclass sessions with their Vivace Pass
12:00-1:00 PM: Lunch Break
1:00-4:00 PM: Fortissimo Chamber Classes
5:00-7:00 PM: Dinner Break for concert nights (Group dinners will be provided at no-cost to the student)
7:30-9:00 PM: Concert (Vivace Festival Faculty or participants)
Water and snacks will be provided. Students are responsible for bringing their own lunch. Pre-concert dinners will be provided for students; parents can join us for pre-concert dinners by adding on the $25 dinner fee in the registration form. Locations of masterclasses and concerts will be at St. James Episcopal Church, CFCC’s Wilson Center, and Grace United Methodist Church; all venues are within 4 walking blocks. Students will be able to walk to and from the venues with ease and safety.
