The second concert of the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra’s “Classic Symphonies” Masterworks Season features Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 (“Pathetique”) and Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2 on Saturday, October 24th at 7:30 p.m. in Kenan Auditorium.
Guest artist Fabian Lopez plays Prokofiev’s energetic Violin Concerto No. 2, the best-known and loved of Prokofiev’s violin works. Tchaikovsky conducted the premiere of his Symphony No. 6 just nine days before his
untimely death. He termed the work “the best thing I have ever written.”
Violinist Fabián López has toured extensively through the United States, Europe and South America, gaining recognition as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. As soloist he has performed with orchestras such as Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Hebert Springs Festival Orchestra, and Orquesta Filarmonica de Málaga. Fabián was a member of the Manuel de Falla String Quartet from 2000-2003 and currently is the first violin of the Carlos Chavez String Quartet. In North Carolina he has appeared as concertmaster of the Greensboro and Ashville Symphonies.
The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra is a private non-profit corporation organized to provide symphonic music at the highest possible degree of excellence, to provide performance opportunities for area musicians, and to provide the cultural benefits of a symphony orchestra to the community.
