The 4th of July in Wilmington is a time-honored tradition that brings tens of thousands of people to downtown Wilmington.  This year, a new tradition is born with the addition of the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra as featured entertainment.  I am honored to be asked to guest conduct for the Stars & Stripes Forever performance and look forward to celebrating with the community." - Mayor Bill Saffo
The City of Wilmington, New Hanover County and the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra (WSO) present a family friendly concert at Live Oak Bank Pavilion on the Fourth of July. Wilmington POPS! will feature over 100 local musicians including WSO musicians, guest artist Alexis Raeana, Opera Wilmington artists John and Shannon Dooley, and a quartet from Wilmington Voices.  The WSO will be led by guest Conductor Dominic Talanca, UNCW Faculty member.  The WSO concert program will include patriotic favorites, classical selections from Bernstein, Copland and Gershwin, and current pops songs.

Fireworks will take place in downtown Wilmington beginning at 9:05 pm and will be shot from a barge located at the convergence of the Cape Fear and Northeast Cape Fear Rivers, just north of the USS Battleship North Carolina.  Fireworks will be viewable along the downtown Riverfront.
An annual 4th of July POPS concert is a cornerstone for a fourth of July celebration, and we are excited to be a part of creating a new tradition for our region.  POPS concerts add so much to a community by bringing people and families together to enjoy music, introduce people of all ages to a symphony orchestra and celebrate in a city we are proud to call home.  I'm so thankful for all of the support we have received from our city departments and sponsors so that our community has a new beloved tradition to enjoy on the fourth of July." - Liz Scanlon, Wilmington Symphony Orchestra executive director
