Steven Errante, conducting
Will Piner, alto saxophone
Allison Freeman, piano soloist

On Saturday evening February 6th at 8:00 p.m. in Kenan Auditorium the Wilmington Symphony’s five-year Beethoven cycle continues with his incomparable Symphony No. 7 in A Major, op. 92, one of the hallmarks of classical repertoire.

Allison Freeman

The winners of the 33rd Annual Richard R. Deas Student Concerto Competition also share the spotlight. Allison Freeman performs the memorable first movement of Camille Saint-Saens’ Piano Concerto #2 in g minor, Op. 22 and Will Piner displays why Jacques Ibert’s Concertino da Camera has become a genuine mainstay in the repertoire for alto saxophone and orchestra. Another Beethoven favorite –Coriolan Overture, Op. 62 – begins the program.

Will Piner

2009-2010 Season

Masterpiece Season!

An Invitation from the Conductor

We invite you to join us for a season of masterpieces for orchestra. I’ve programmed some familiar favorites such as Grieg’s famous Piano Concerto alongside what is for me a new discovery – music of Swedish composer Franz Berwald. We’ll be continuing our Beethoven Symphony Cycle with a performance of Beethoven’s personal favorite – the Seventh, and we’re presenting an exciting world premiere. The season features some fresh faces in the solo line-up too, including three UNCW faculty members: Marina DeRatmiroff, soprano, Christopher Johns, violoncello, and Elizabeth Loparits, piano.
