General admission tickets are available at the Kenan Auditorium Ticket Office beginning at 3:30 p.m. on the concert afternoon. Tickets are $5 and free for youth 13 and under. The matinee performance begins at 4:30 p.m.
Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra Pender County MatineeSunday, November 22, 2009 - 4:00 PMWilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra Steven Errante, conductor Topsail Middle School 8th Grade Band directed by Robert NoremOn Sunday afternoon, November 22, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. the Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra will perform a Matinee Concert at Topsail High School 245 N. St.. Johns Church Road in Hampstead. The free concert will be in the Kenneth Lanier Performing Arts Center and promises to be a wonderful hour of musical celebration for young people and their families.
The Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra is conducted by Dr. Steven Errante. The Youth Orchestra will perform Rossini's Overture to The Thieving Magpie, “Morning Mood” and “In the Halls of the Mountain King” from Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite, the First Movement from Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 (“Pastorale”),and selections from Fiddler on the Roof.
Sharing the stage will be the Topsail Middle School 8th Grade Band, directed by Robert Norem performing The Pit and the Pendulum, Celtic Air and Dance, The Forge of Vulcan and Moussorgsky’s famous Pictures at an Exhibition.
The Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra is an educational and outreach program of the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra. Its musicians are ninth- through twelfth-grade string, wind, brass and percussion students who will perform several concerts during the course of the 2009-2010 concert season.
The mission of the Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra is to enrich the lives of Cape Fear area youth by providing talented young musicians with unique orchestral training and performing opportunities.
New-member auditions will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2010. Details, an application form, and the required audition music are available at www.wilmingtonsymphony.org.
The Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra’s 2009-2010 season has received support from The Landfall Foundation , the Piedmont Natural Gas Foundation, and the Grassroots Arts Program of the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency.
